Broad-area diode lasers are high-power diode lasers with output powers in the range of several Watts. In comparison to ridge and tapered diode lasers broad-area diode lasers offer much more output power, but are spacially and longitudinally multimode.
There are different designs of broad-area diode lasers available. Typically the emitting area is between 150 µm and 200 µm in lateral direction multiplied by 1 µm in vertical direction. The rear facet is provided with a highly reflection coating of more than 95%. The front facet is provided with an anti-reflection coating between 1% and 5% depending on the application.
The broad-area diode lasers are available up to output powers of 6 W. For output powers up to 5 W the diodes will be mounted p-side down on copper heat sinks in C-mount design. For higher output powers it is advisable to mount the diodes on high-power heat sinks like CCP mounts. A good heat dissipation is essential to achieve the specified characteristics. Therefore we like to discuss or even overtake for you the mounting of our diodes on your heat sink or adapter concepts.
