Description: This SGP1 monoclonal antibody reacts with human c-ErbB3, which is also known as HER3. This epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor family member is expressed on normal human tissues, particularly on neurons and cells of the gastrointestinal tract. c-ErbB3 is overexpressed in a variety of cancers, including breast, ovary, and gastrointestinal carcinomas. Upon binding its ligand heregulin beta-1, c-ErbB3 is activated by heterodimerization with ErbB2 or EGFR1. Dependent on PI3K signaling, c-ErbB3 mediates tumor cell invasion, intravasation, and metastasis. Expression of this cell surface receptor has been used as a prognostic marker for breast cancer.
The SGP1 antibody has been reported to stimulate anchorage-independent growth of breast cancer cell lines.
