Description
Sulfathiazole sodium is a bacteriostatic sulfonamide antibiotic. Sulfathiazole acts as a competitor with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) in the folic acid synthesis pathway. Sulfathiazole sodium is sparingly soluble in aqueous solution 0.373 mg/mL.
Mechanism
Sulfonamide will be catalyzed to competitive combine with the pteridine in stead of the PABA in synthesis of folic acid, inhibiting production of folic acid.

Sulfathiazole is a broad spectrum antibiotic targeting a wide range of gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
