描述：N-Acetyltryptamine is a partial agonist of the melatonin receptors. N-Acetyltryptamine bears a reduced structure of Melatonin , lacking the 5-methoxy group. N-Acetyltryptamine is described to demonstrate agonism at melatonin receptors in the rabbit retina, inhibiting Ca²⁺-dependent release of [³H]dopamine. N-Acetyltryptamine is also described to demonstrate competitive antagonism of the inhibitory effect of melatonin on [³H]dopamine release in the chicken retina.
