       猪放线杆菌(Actinobacillus)为小杆菌，革兰氏阳性杆菌，长2～3µm，宽0.3～0.5µm。在组织和培养基上呈丛状或栅栏样，不运动，不形成芽孢，无荚膜。在动物组织中能形成带有辐射状菌丝的颗粒状聚集物，外观似颗粒，呈灰色、灰黄色或微棕色，大小如别针头状，质地柔软或坚硬。组织压片经革兰氏染色，其ZX菌体为紫色，周围辐射状的菌丝呈红色。猪放线杆菌可在麦康凯培养基上生长，在血琼脂上厌氧培养时，该菌生长良好，48h可见到直径2～3mm的菌落，继而长成扁平干燥、灰色、表面不透明、边缘呈锯齿状的大菌落，不太黏稠，呈β溶血。在血清肉汤培养基生长可形成黏稠的沉淀物。
猪放线杆菌相当不活泼，大多数菌株可分解麦芽糖和木糖，水解淀粉，不利用其他常见糖类，所有菌株可产生尿素酶。甲基红、过氧化氢酶、吲哚、还原试验阴性，不液化凝固的血清和鸡蛋，在石蕊牛奶中轻度碱化。猪放线杆菌对外界的抵抗力不强，一般消均可迅速将其杀灭。对青霉素、链霉素、四环素、林可霉素和磺胺类等药物敏感。
