Glucagon plays an important role in initiating and maintaining hyperglycemic conditions in diabetes. Glucagon is available under the names Glucagon (Eli Lilly) and GlucaGen or Glucagon Novo Nordisk (Novo Nordisk), which are used to treat severe hypoglycemia in insulin-dependent diabetics.
