Linear polyethylenimine (PEI 25000) is a high-charge cationic polymer that readily binds with highly anionic substrates. Industrially, linear PEI can improve the appearance of negatively charged dyes by modulating their properties and improving their adherence to surfaces. In research, PEI readily binds to DNA and other negatively charged biological molecules, making it one of the most efficient vector carrier available.
PEI 25000 has 3-7% of the acylated amines (N-propionylated) from isomerization-polymerization of 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline followed by acid-hydrolysis of resulting N-propionyl-PEI. For fully deacylated PEI, see Polyethylenimine HCl MAX, Linear, Mw 40,000
