A probe biotinylated with PHOTOPROBE® Biotin, FastTag® Biotin, 3’ EndTag™ Biotin, or 5’ EndTag™ Biotin is hybridized to a nucleic acid sample in solution. After hybridization, the mixture is incubated with a suspension of VECTREX® Avidin D or passed through a column containing VECTREX® Avidin D. The DNA or RNA which is not associated with the biotinylated probe is left in solution or passes through the column. The biotinylated probe and the nucleic acid complementary to the probe are thus separated from noncomplementary sequences.This matrix is used to bind large biotinylated molecules which may not penetrate an agarose bead. All of the Avidin D is bound to the surface of the VECTREX® particle, providing an unrestricted access by biotinylated macromolecules. Biotinylated DNA, for example, can be bound easily and irreversibly to VECTREX® Avidin D.  Irreversible binding of biotinylated nucleic acids to a solid support can be accomplished using VECTREX® Avidin D. This product consists of Avidin D covalently linked to the surface of the VECTREX® matrix.
