人的空肠位于腹腔的左上侧，回肠位于右下侧，空肠稍粗，由于有很多血管分布而微带红色。上端起于十二指肠空肠曲，回肠下端与盲肠相连。空肠与回肠盘绕于腹腔的中、下部，两者间无明显的界限，空肠约占空回肠的上2/5，主要位于左外侧区和脐区，其特点是血管丰富，较红润，管壁厚管腔大，粘膜面有高而密的环形皱襞，并可见许多散在的孤立淋巴滤泡。因为空肠的消化和吸收力强，蠕动快，肠内常呈排空状态，所以叫空肠。所属编辑小肠位于腹中，上端接幽门与胃相通，下端通过阑门与大肠相连。小肠与心互空肠空肠为表里。是食物消化吸收的主要场所，盘曲于腹腔内，上连胃幽门，下接盲肠，全长约3－5米，张开有半个篮球场大，分为十二指肠、空肠和回肠三部分。十二指肠位于腹腔的后上部，全长25厘米。它的上部（又称球部）连接胃幽门，是溃疡的好发部位。肝脏分泌的胆汗和分泌的胰液，通过胆总管和管在十二指肠上的开口，排泄到十二指肠内以消化食物。
